Sound School hosts KLEIN, in discussion with MAKEDA and SEZZO SNOT. Sound School is an independent initiative delivering electronic music workshops that celebrate and upskill emerging artists on the margins. We’re proud to collaborate with Sound School to present the ideas and techniques of artist from international communities within their inclusive and experimental workshop series.

South London based musician Klein is an artist whose neoteric vision has seen her quickly become one of the UK’s most intriguing and unpinnable producers and performers. With themes of vulnerability, sisterhood and death, her often playful and restive approach to composition is instantly alluring. Distant piano loops lurk in the haze whilst beguiling vocals fade in and out of the sensory world of her own creation. Her live voice and piano playing, filtered through hyper glitchy and looped production with an loose, internal logic; cutting from angular atonality to pockets of skewered harmony. There’s a lot of bluster about originality in contemporary UK music and what rises from the noise here is a creative voice who, by her very nature plays with the construct of what pop is.

Liquid Architecture Associate Curators SEZZO SNOT and MAKEDA will host a Q&A with KLEIN, following Sunday’s performance at PRECOG, co-commissioned by Liquid Architecture and Next Wave.

MAKEDA is interested in creating utopic realities. As a performer, artist and DJ, she is energized through creating sonic dualities: the oddity of hyper masculine 180-bpm jungle and footwork dancefloors, alongside dub, ambient and the new-left club sound, all of which inform the atonality and asexuality of her own music. Makeda’s debut 12″ out on MOONTOWN RECORDS soon.

SEZZO SNOT emerges as a club DJ who combines social media commentary and philosophy. In her hometown of Brisbane, she curated the first QTIPOC club nights outside of the normative gay sphere. Sezzo and her collaborator Makeda are the recipients of the Next Wave x Liquid Architecture National Co-comission to be presented at Next Wave Festival in 2018. Sezzo currently lives and works in Melbourne.
