Anna Homler AKA Breadwoman
A vocal, visual and performance artist based in Los Angeles, Anna Homler explores alternative means of communication and the poetics of ordinary objects. Singing in a melodic improvised language that is ancient and contemporary, Homler searches for the symbolic and tonal qualities of words and everyday objects.
Homler’s music first became known in the 1980s through an otherworldly project in collaboration with Steve Moshier—Breadwoman, a project borne of myth and shadow play, mystery and diving speech. Marking a recent reissued by RVNG of a collection of Breadwoman works in 2016, Homler has been touring with a host of modern day co-conspirators, some of which Liquid Architecture are excited to present during her 2018 Australian tour.
Homler is also known for her improvisations and collaborations with David Moss, Ethan James, Steve Roden, Steve Peters, the Voices of Kwahn, Steve Beresford, Peter Kowald, Frank Schulte, Richard Sanderson, Geert Waegeman, and Sylvia Hallett—playing at a host venues throughout the United States and Europe, including P.S. 122, the Kitchen, St. Mark’s Church, L.A.C.E., Café Oto, CTM Festival, Stedelijk Museum, South Bank Centre and many more.
