Menstruation Sisters
15 Tinning St

Hatched the same year Public Enemy provided “Rumbo n da Jungo” for the Street Fighter Movie Soundtrack (1994), Menstruation Sisters have been slow-cooking the minds of audiences and record collector scum with their bewildering, damaged, scrambling ape music. Imagine the first 20 minutes of 2001: A Space Odyssey, where the monkeys discover a guitar plugged into an amplifier, instead of some mysterious chunk of black marble.
Over the past 20 years, they have released much sought after records on labels including White Denim, Menlo Park, Ultra Eczema, Ecstatic Peace!, Alga Marghen and Bung Boong Records. Rarely playing together, the upcoming live show provides a rare opportunity to see the power trio line up of Nik Kamvissis, Oren Ambarchi and Brendan Walls fresh from European shows where they really set Rambo’s Pizzeria, Milan on fire with a tempestuous set.
More to the point perhaps is Falahim Ooskasky from the University of Samarkand who, in his doctoral thesis on Music and the Unconscious, wrote “The Sisters come from a place where there is no language and no technique. One-string, Minnie Ripperton, a footprint, intuitive chants, and two tree trunks.”
