LIQUID ARCHITECTURE and GOETHE-INSTITUT present the surrealist aural experiments of LUCRECIA DALT. A sound so singular and vast, it was dreamt into being. Joined by ITALIANZ’s delicacies, the magnetic sonic textures of LISA LERKENFELDT and Shoeb Ahmad’s improvised and amplified ragas.
Colombian-born, Berlin-based LUCRECIA DALT has seen her profile as musician, sound artist and radio producer develop into high international regard. Her recorded albums - numbering seven in total, since her 2005 debut - encompass the dual worlds of intelligent avant-garde and contemporary electronic music, drawing in influences from her academic background as a civil engineer as well as musics and philosophies from across the world. She has collaborated with musical kindred spirit Julia Holter and worked on podcasts for the online radio of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona, on sound design installations and performative pieces for institutions such as Reina Sofia Museum and the Maisterravalbuena gallery of Madrid, in collaboration with visual artist Regina de Miguel.
ITALIANZ make music for Saturday afternoons; the perfect accompaniment to antipasto platters, mascarpone figs, $8 flagons of Sangiovese from Mediterranean Wholesalers, and the offcut pieces of cacciatore salami purchased at the end of the day from King & Godfree (pre-renovation). With a main course of still-hot lasagne from the dumpster behind Threshermans. As for the actual music, three words: Cocteau Twin Peakz.
LISA LERKENFELDT is an artist, musician and producer based in Melbourne, Australia. Working with field recordings, tapes, electronics and objects Lisa's atmospheric electronics contemplate intimacy and technology. Her release Glass Braid on imprint Vienna Press (2017) and forthcoming The Speed of Images on Semiotics Press, Aught/Void consider beauty and cruelty. She is also a member of noise duo, Perfume.
Canberra’s SHOEB AHMAD offers a rich and extensive background in Australian music, creating idiosyncratic music over the last decade, using guitar, keyboards, voice and electronics. Shoeb works both as singer/composer and improviser and has performed throughout Australia, Japan, New Zealand, the UK and the SE Asian region as a solo artist and with groups such as Sensaround, Spartak, Tangents and the Australian Art Orchestra. Shoeb has released a diverse range of original music while also working on sound design for dance/theatre, installation pieces and contemporary chamber composition, inspired by 20th Century avant-classical works, Indian ragas and minimalist electronic music.
LUCRECIA DALT performs an original live soundtrack to 1920s supernatural film, DER GOLEM at Astor Theatre on Friday June 21.
