LIQUID ARCHITECTURE presents the destructive ferocity of GABBER MODUS OPERANDI: an Indonesian and Balinese duo who fuse the intensity of jathilan, gabber, dangdut koplo, Chicago footwork and grindcore into an exuberant digital sarcasm. Performing with them on the night is HEXTAPE's unrelenting hardstyle pursuit, the flesh-curdling UBOA, and HORSE MACGYVER’s macerated browser history.

GABBER MODUS OPERANDI was accidentally founded by Kasimyn and Ican Harem following their fad staging at an underground punk concert in Denpasar. After some DJ- and MC-ing, Kasimyn began producing tracks for the duo using the smallest musical instrument: the Mini Synth Teenage Engineering OP-1, while Ican Harem provides vocals and joke-filled improvisation.

Their experimentation began with a healthy obsession for the energy and intensity of jathilan (Javanese ritualised trance-dance), gabber, dangdut koplo (Indonesian folk music), Chicago footwork, grindcore and noise music. Manipulating traditional song samples, borrowing from the rooted pentatonic scale, especially Balinese gamelan, and adding some finishing touches with their own sound design, Gabber Modus Operandi attempt to provide another bridge over the unique gap between humor and the darkness of contemporary music and tradition in Indonesia. Their exuberant digital sarcasm straddles (and questions) the line between the sacred and the banal.

HEXTAPE is sound artist/activist Bridget Chappell is joined by PATRICK HASE on visuals. She is the founder and coordinator of Sound School, an award-winning organisation upskilling and celebrating marginalised voices in electronic music. She produces hardstyle dance music as Hextape, organises raves in Melbourne’s subterranean spaces, and studies classical cello at Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, sometimes combining these pursuits in funny mixed bill squat shows. Forthcoming works include “Undertow” for Melbourne Knowledge Week, and her album “2 Fast 2 Furious” on Factoid.

UBOA is the nom-de-guerre of Xandra Metcalfe, a Melbourne-based sound artist specialising in both dreamy ambience, and nightmarish caverns of harsh noise. Drawing lyrical inspiration from her experience as a transgender woman, Xandra Metcalfe’s work as Uboa condenses a wider range of influences into a frightening soundscape of its own. Fans of Purgist, Facialmess, Endon, Locrian, Nurse With Wound, along with artists on the No Rent and Triangle Records labels, will find themselves right at home with her soundscapes.

HORSE MACGYVER is the nonsense moniker of Melbourne-based media artist, sound designer, and musician Timothy Dwyer. Horse MacGyver's performances and video works are an unfolding alchemical outpouring of digital distortions, deconstructed electronics and performed "internet psychosis."
