Xoir (2013 - ongoing) is a non-utilitarian vocal workshop developed and led by COLIN SELF focused on alternative modalities of group singing. Rooted in somatic research and experimentation, the goal of Xoir is to foster a generative environment for individuals to connect with voice and vocality on an individual and collective level. Xoir is open to anyone interested in exploring their voice as a tool for learning or re-posturing a new relationship to singing and listening. These Xoir activities are taught to be used, re-used, and repurposed by participants in their own creative practices.
For XOIR: NAARM, Self will guide participants through a series of exercises connecting singing and vocalization with kinesthetic awareness. Looking into multiple histories of singing as it relates to resistance and survival. This workshop is created to explore, experiment, and inspire individual and collective agency beyond the conventional metrics of value often imposed upon creative and musical practices.
This workshop is limited to 30 participants. RSVP is essential.
