Madeleine Mills
Hardy is an Anglo-Australian artist who has been based in Narrm (Melbourne) for the past six years. Hardy is infatuated by our interconnectedness and non-lexical kinds of communication. Hardy rummages amongst the implications of meaning that materialise in vernacular English. Here, we might find the room to re-sound (rather than abandon) the rituals in reading and writing. A continual re-sounding might cast-off the bind between verbal testament, validation and response to a call. Looking for this sweet spot, Hardy wants us to be aware of our capacity to listen and respond through the body and its senses.
Hardy pays respect to the spirit of the Biik lands and Baan waters that flow through the Kulin Nation; that continue to sustain the lives of the Wurundjeri peoples, their relations and Ngamudji alike. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the first custodians of this country. Hardy pays respects to these peoples continuing connection to community, culture, land, waters and sky; as to Elders past and present.
