Kate Crawford

Kate Crawford is a leading researcher and professor who has spent the last decade studying the social implications of data systems, machine learning and artificial intelligence. She is a Distinguished Research Professor at NYU and a Senior Principal Researcher at MSR-NYC. In 2020, she is the inaugural Visiting Chair for AI and Justice at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris. Kate is the co-founder of the AI Now Institute at New York University, the world's first university institute dedicated to researching the social implications of artificial intelligence and related technologies.
Her academic research has been published in journals such as Nature, New Media & Society, Science, Technology & Human Values and Information, Communication & Society. Beyond the academic side, Kate has also written for The New York Times, The Atlantic, Harpers’ Magazine, among others.
