Jenny Ruth Barnes
Subverting the gendered voice and exploiting the performativity of body, voice, and sound Jenny plays hard to reveal softness and responsiveness along a frightened, feared and enraged path.
Jennyʼs work has featured alongside that of Meredith Monk (USA), Jaap Blonk (Netherlands), Fatima Miranda (Spain) and Amanda Stewart (Australia). Jenny features on the 2018 ASTRA Choir release on New World Records and in 2017 was commissioned to compose two pieces for ASTRA. She performed with the Australian Art Orchestra’s ‘Ecstatic Voice’ at the 2017 OzAsia Festival and in 2018 featured in ‘Dybbuks’, a theatre work from Chamber Made Opera, conceived and directed by Samara Hersch, that evokes the many ways that the dead inhabit female bodies through language, voice, memory and desire. In 2019 Jenny will release 'Sad Mannequin' a much awaited duo recording with electric bassist Mick Meagher under the guise 'Wolfa'.
